MoCoLMP wishes to share our appreciation for Will Schwarz, founding president of the Maryland Lynching Memorial Project (MLMP). Will announced he is stepping down as president in January. In March 2018, he led MLMP’s first soil collection in Towson. A few months later, he organized the first statewide conference, which has become an annual event.

Thanks to Will’s leadership, Maryland now has coalitions working in 14 of the 17 counties that have documented lynchings. Soil has been collected at 24 of the 38 known lynching sites in the state, and eight historical markers have been put in place around the state.

In January, Amy Millin will become the President of the MLMP. MoCoLMP has worked with Amy in her roles as the treasurer and co-leader of the Baltimore County LMP and as an at-large Commissioner on the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission. We are delighted that she will be stepping in to fill Will's shoes and we encourage you to sign up for their monthly newsletter.

We would like to thank Will for his vision, wisdom, and achievements in the cause of racial justice. We wish him the best in the next chapter of his journey!
